Darren Simpson Dies of Heart Attack

Darren Simpson, celebrated chef, has died.

According to an article in 'The Daily Telegraph', the father of two is believed to have suffered a heart attack on Thursday night after a recent attempt at rehabilitation in a clinic, then hospital near his Byron Bay home.

Continues the report:

"The restaurant and food industry friends of celebrity chef Darren Simpson have used social media to pay tribute to the former TV foodie who has died after a long battle with alcohol addiction-related illness."

Irish-born Darren was named UK’s Young Chef of the year at the age of 21, the youngest ever winner of the prestigious award, open to those under 25.

Darren trained in some of the most acclaimed restaurants in the world, including Le Gavrouche, the River Cafe, and Sir Terence Conran’s Sartoria in Savile Row.

Remember when Darren worked for Aqua Luna? He'd been headhunted in 1999, to become the head chef at the venue. He then opened the award-winning La Sala, a modern Italian restaurant, in Woollahra in 2005.

He went on to be a 'My Restaurant Rules' judge, and recently attracted media attention when he was appointed head chef of the upgraded The Avenue in June.

So sad. RIP Darren.
