Gene Wilder dies, age 83, from Alzheimer’s

Gene Wilder, the handsome, blue-eyed curly topped actor, has died - he was 83, and died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

And THIS FACE, which launched a million memes:

He was in such comedic gems as 'The Producers', 'Blazing Saddles', 'Young Frankenstein', 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' and 'Stir Crazy', died Monday at his home in Stamford, Connecticut. His nephew Jordan Walker-Perlman spoke in some interesting, moving words about his uncle and his disease, in a statement, saying:
“We understand for all the emotional and physical challenges this situation presented we have been among the lucky ones — this illness-pirate, unlike in so many cases, never stole his ability to recognize those that were closest to him, nor took command of his central-gentle-life affirming core personality. The decision to wait until this time to disclose his condition wasn’t vanity, but more so that the countless young children that would smile or call out to him “there’s Willy Wonka,” would not have to be then exposed to an adult referencing illness or trouble and causing delight to travel to worry, disappointment or confusion. He simply couldn’t bear the idea of one less smile in the world.
"He continued to enjoy art, music, and kissing with his leading lady of the last twenty-five years, Karen. He danced down a church aisle at a wedding as parent of the groom and ring bearer, held countless afternoon movie western marathons and delighted in the the company of beloved ones.”
His wild eyed persona got lots of screen time in the 1970s - he was in
'The Woman in Red', co-starring then-wife Gilda Radner.
Wilder was devastated by Radner’s death from ovarian cancer in 1989 and worked only occasionally after that. He tried his hand briefly at a sitcom in 1994, “Something Wilder,” and won an Emmy in 2003 for a guest role on “Will & Grace.”
In 1971 he became Willy Wonka, in 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory', which was not an immediate hit but became a children’s favourite over the years.
Wilder also made a number of films co-starring Richard Pryor.
The first of these was 1976’s “Silver Streak,” a spoof of film thrillers set on trains; 1980’s “Stir Crazy” was an even bigger hit, grossing more than $100 million. Wilder and Pryor’s two other pairings, “See No Evil, Hear No Evil” and “Another You,” was less of a success.

While filming “Hanky Panky” in 1982, Wilder met “Saturday Night Live” comedienne Radner. She became his third wife shortly thereafter. Wilder and Radner co-starred in his most successful directing stint, “The Woman in Red” in 1984, and then “Haunted Honeymoon.” But Radner grew ill with cancer, and he devoted himself to her care, working sporadically after that and hardly at all after her death in 1989.
He last acted in a couple of episodes of “Will and Grace” in 2002-03 as Mr. Stein, winning an Emmy.
He was born Jerome Silberman in Milwaukee and began studying acting at the age of 12. After getting his B.A. from the U. of Iowa in 1955, Wilder enrolled in the Old Vic Theater school in Bristol, where he learned acting technique and fencing. When he returned to the U.S. he taught fencing and did other odd jobs while studying with Herbert Berghof’s HB Studio and at the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg.
He is survived by his fourth wife Karen Boyer, whom he married in 1991 and his nephew. His sister Corinne, predeceased him in January 2016.
Before Radner, Wilder was married to the actress-playwright Mary Mercier and Mary Joan Schutz (aka Jo Ayers).
RIP Gene - it has just been revealed why he kept his illness secret... many kids recognised him still as Willy Wonka, and he didn't want to confuse them.
It has also just been revealed that one of his fave songs came on the radio - 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' - as he drifted off to his death overnight.
My faves: Willy Wonka, but also 'Silver Streak' and 'Hanky Panky' - watching the latter two as a child, quite by accident, strengthened my mini crush on this blue eyed cutie. RIP.

P&O + Luke Mangan's Culinary Experience Officer

What a unique and delicious event!

Josie's Juice attended the event organised by the fab team at P&O where two talented home cooks were shortlisted as finalists for Luke Mangan's Culinary Experience Officer, where they will have dishes included across five Salt grill restaurants on P&O Cruises’ ships.

Renowned and wildly accomplished Australian restaurateur Luke Mangan has hand-picked two talented home cooks and foodies Sammy Jakubiak and Sofia Levin as short-listed finalists in his Search for a CEO (Culinary Experience Officer) campaign, launched in March. And what a clever campaign!

Here is Sammy:

And here is Sofia:

The campaign marks Mangan’s milestone of becoming the first restaurateur in the world with dishes served on land, sea, air and rail (so very cool!) following a recent partnership with Eastern & Oriental Express.

Mangan called on foodies across the country to enter for the chance to be short-listed in one of the following categories: The Drinks Connoisseur, The Artisan Supplier and The Talented Home Cook, for which Sammy and Sofia were selected. The final crowned ‘CEO’ will be awarded with a smorgasbord of tasting and travel experiences at Luke’s international restaurants, across P&O Cruises’ ships, Virgin Australia and Eastern & Oriental brand partnerships in October.

Of the five dishes created for the occasion (they were all utterly delicious and adventurous and sheer perfection), Sammy’s was a beautiful creation of orange and amaretto cheesecake while Sofia’s was a delightful beetroot cured kingfish. Chosen by a panel of judges including Luke Mangan and P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell and a popular vote on the day, the two winners will now create a dish each to be available in all Salt grill restaurants onboard all five P&O Cruises’ ships.

Here are all the fabulous entrants:

Luke opened his first restaurant at sea onboard a P&O ship in 2009 and now has a Salt grill onboard each of the cruise line’s five ships. His next Salt grill will launch in June 2017 when P&O’s latest ship Pacific Explorer debuts in Sydney.

“To have five Salt grill restaurants at sea speaks volumes about P&O’s innovative approach to cruise cuisine as well as Australians’ love of good food, and I’m thrilled they’ve been a partner in my search for a CEO,” Luke said.

Sammy commented on her shortlisting and opportunity to create a dish with Luke: “I’m excited for the chance to create a dish with one of Australia’s biggest foodie personalities. I can learn so much from Luke!”

Sofia said of her selection: “Cooking kingfish for Luke, the crown prince of kingfish, was a gamble – evidently one that paid off! I’m honoured to be through to the finals and keen to see what I can create for P&O.”

Sammy and Sofia join Luke Ashton who won the Tourism Australia cocktail phase and the yet to be decided Artisan Supplier.

Mangan commented on the pair’s selection: “The standard of home cooks here in Australia is exceptional; a product of the passion and produce this nation has on tap. So much so we couldn’t pick just one!”

“The huge pool of outstanding Australian expertise in the food and beverage industry has really shone through during my search for a CEO, with a huge amount of applications showing amazing talent from across the country. The aim of the campaign is to showcase what Australia has to offer to an international audience, via my network of restaurants and brand partnerships.”

The final three candidates will be assessed in September by Mangan and the President of P&O Cruises Sture Myrmell, Tourism Australia, Virgin Australia and Hilton Hotels before the CEO winner is announced.

The crowned ‘CEO’ will land the role of a lifetime and a money-can’t-buy smorgasbord of travel and tasting experiences in October, including a four-night P&O cruise to Hamilton Island onboard the Pacific Aria and joining Mangan for his restaurant’s inaugural journey on board the Eastern & Oriental Express between Singapore and Bangkok. They will create content for report on Mangan’s extensive portfolio, including a taste of Virgin Australia’s Business Class, as well as dinners at his restaurants in Asia and the Maldives.

BAZAAR Icons: 'In Bed with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West': Harper's Bazaar VIDEO + PHOTOS

Kim and Kanye are - whether you like it or not - pop culture royalty. First name basis and all, folks. In case you need it: Kardashian and West.

And now, Harper's Bazaar agree and have included them in their icons lineup. Here is the cover. The issue is onsale from August 16:

Here is an excerpt:

KIM, KANYE, KARL, AND CARINE
Paris—Karl Lagerfeld's studio, June 13, 2016.
PART ONE: KIM
STEPHEN GAN What is it like to be dubbed a fashion icon by Carine Roitfeld?
KIM KARDASHIAN WEST It's such an honor. I have always loved and respected Carine's style and her taste, so for her to choose Kanye and I is such a big deal. It was such a challenge at the beginning, no one would send clothes—they didn't even think that I would fit a sample size. They would see photos and just think that I was super curvy. Even now there are some designers that swear that I will never fit in a sample size. I'm a size two. I happen to be curvy, but for some reason I'm the master of squeezing into anything, and so it's fun to see when a designer finally sends something and they're like, "Wait, she really fit in that sample size." It's hard to find things that are unique and also fit my body type, and that are ahead of the curve and ahead of the game. I love always elevating and trying new things and I think that's where Kanye comes in, because I swear he sees everything a few steps ahead of anyone else. Kanye is a big part of my fashion story and my fashion transformation. He's my best stylist. Every look I love is definitely something that he's had a hand in helping to style or put together. My friends and my sisters will say, "I've never met anyone like you two who will just sit in a closet for hours and try on clothes and cut things up and redesign them." We just love it, and we spend a lot of time on it. We do put a lot of effort into the looks and trying to stay ahead of the game.
SG What do you think of Paris? How often do you come with Kanye?
KKW I wish we were here longer, we're only here for one day, but I'll definitely be back for the [fashion] shows this year. Paris is such a big part of my story with Kanye. When he had his second fashion show, I hadn't really left the house, I was just sitting at home hanging out a lot and he invited me to his show and my friends were like, "Why not? Just go!" That kind of sparked my relationship. We first really fell in love in Paris. And even though we got married in Italy, we spent our whole week here getting ready. All of our guests thought that we were getting married in Paris. We were going to, and then we switched the venue a month before, surprising everyone by telling them to come to Paris thinking that's where it would be. We did our bachelorette and bachelor dinners and parties and welcome party and then our rehearsal dinner at Versaille and then we told everyone, "Hey guys, we're not really getting married in Paris, everyone be outside by 11am and planes will take everyone to Italy." Paris was really part of our wedding, we have such an emotional connection here.

Philips Lumea IPL Hair Removal System: VIDEO

Hair.

I love it, I really do.

Scan my Instagram page and you'll see I am hair obsessed. Mamma told me that hair always needs to look perfect before leaving the house.

But hair on legs, underarms, bikini line? Ugh, be gone.

Okay, confession time though.

I don't like hair on my body, nope. No letting it grow under arms (yew). No hairy arms.

But: I don't have any hair on my face. Never waxed my lady mo - because I don't have one.

And... I don't do Brazilians. Have done. Once. Yeah, no. Not interested in being utterly naked down there. Pubic hair is there for a reason, folks. (Have you ever zapped your hair entirely there? Uncomfortable, for many different reasons).

But a trimmed lady garden - yes. I am not a waxer, not a beauty salon regular for hair removal.

So, when I was offered the chance to trial the new Philips Lumea IPL Hair Removal System - yep. Come at me.

It's super simple to use, you guys. Foolproof, even. Here is a photo of the beauty:

First thing you need do is actually shave your hair off. So, I let it ALL grow, super long. Then took to it with a razor, and then started the process of zapping.

Here's the deal: if you have pale skin and dark hair you're the best possible candidate for the product. In laymen's terms, the Lumea machine omits flashes of light that are drawn to the dark hair, killing it at the root.

The process is (should be) pain free, and the treatment doesn't take too long at all.

All you need to do is run it over the area slightly slower than if you were shaving to allow the light to be absorbed. (Also, as you can see above, there are different attachments according to the area of your body you are treating: face, bikini line, legs).

Pro tip: the Philips Lumea IPL Hair Removal System comes with a guide that advises what light intensity you should use dependent on your skin tone. Don't use a higher intensity than what is recommended for your skin. This baby is also cordless, so you can use the machine around the house.

Here's the best bit: after four treatments you should start to see smoother skin for longer, and you can be hair free for up to two months. The longer you continue to use the product, the longer lasting the results will be.

The best way to explain it is via this video:

For more info, go HERE.

The product is at an RRP of $899. See more on it here.

The newest show from the Kardashian stable has just landed.

In this first look at E!'s upcoming six-episode docs-series, the engaged couple and parents to-be get into a huge fight (of course!) as they prepare for the birth of their baby.

"I fell in love with you because I know how good you are and how loyal you are," Rob tells Chyna in the clip.

The clip then cuts to Chyna screaming at Rob over the phone, "Are you still texting bitches, yes or no?" before she slams the door on him. Well, alright then.

The clip ends with the tagline: "They're cute, they're complicated and they're about to become family."

Rob & Chyna premieres on US TV on Sunday, September 11 at 9pm, on E! - stay tuned for the Australian screen date.

One Fine Baby: Baby Fair, Sydney + Melbourne

If you're free this weekend - and yes, if you are pregnant, or already a new mummy - THIS is the event to attend: One Fine Baby.

Choc full of fab ideas you may never have thought of for bub (I was invited by my fellow mum friend, who is also my ex journo mate and a seriously good blogger and Instagrammer, Hipster Mum), I was blown away by the set up and ambience and stallholders available for the public to come enjoy.

Josie's Juice (also representing our sister blog TwinnieWorld) has been a little out of the baby convo (my twins are eight) so I was pleasantly surprised at the options out there for mammas. Milestone cards? Who knew!

Might I add, if you are a 'veteran' mum like I am, it's still worth coming along to: the ideas for gift giving for fellow mum friends are plentiful, not to mention every single stall holder is handpicked to fit the beautiful aesthetic of the event.

And the Friday night, opening night panel line up: whoa! If you have a chance to do this next year, come experience it. Melbourne is also offering a similar line up of fabulous women. Some amazing ladies chatted about their experiences of being a mother, and got real honest about all the hard stuff, and all the good stuff.

MCed by the truly fabulous and friendly and affable Jules Sebastian (such a perfect choice to head up a panel of exceptional women, who happen to be mothers), she lead the convo on such heavy hitters as: Emma Isaacs, Kyly Clarke, Kate Ritchie, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Jen Bishop, and more. In Melbourne, it'll be Nadia Bartel, Bec Douros, and more.

The event is on today and Sunday, at the Australian Technology Park, 2 Locomotive Street, Eveleigh. HERE is the link to the show. Sydney ladies (and gents! And kids!), enjoy.

Melbourne it'll be your turn on September 9, 10, and 11.

'Stranger Things' + Barb = Netflix Hit: VIDEO + PHOTOS

Have you watched the cult hit 'Stranger Things'?

It's the surprise hit from Netflix.

And the break out hero... Barb.

Here is Barb, then let's learn more about the series. If you don't have Netflix, get it, stat.

Barb has been so huge all over social media. Barb - played by 19 year old Shannon Purser in her first onscreen role - appears less in the show than every other person on that list. But her performance and character = instant cult status.

In the past two weeks, the internet has gone mad for Barb, and the hashtag #WeAreAllBarb, has gone mad too. Check it out.

And here is the trailer:

Says the press blurb:

Sometimes the truth can be stranger than fiction...

Set in Hawkins Indiana in the 1980’s, Stranger Things chronicles the search for a young boy who vanishes into thin air under highly suspicious circumstances. His mother (Winona Ryder) opens an investigation into the boy's disappearance with local authorities that unravels a series of mysteries involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl. A love letter to the ubiquitous cult classics of the 80’s, Stranger Things is a coming of age story for three boys that draws this quaint community into a world where mysteries lurk beneath the surface.

'Stranger Things' stars Winona Ryder, Matthew Modine, David Harbour, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, and Millie Brown, Stranger Things is executive produced by The Duffer Brothers (Wayward Pines)Shawn Levy (Night at The Museum), and Dan Cohen (Story of Your Life).
