'Insight': Aboriginal or Not

Interestingly, more Australians than ever are identifying in the Census as Indigenous. In fact, the number has risen more than 20 per cent since 2006.

But there is debate in some Aboriginal communities over who should be able to call themselves Aboriginal, whether appearance or postcode should have anything to do with it, and whether the current certification system is working as well as it should be.

While Australians may personally identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, not everyone has a document to prove it. 

And this then becomes a problem when Indigenous-specific services (housing, education) require people to provide a ‘certificate of Aboriginality’. Some claim the system is flawed because of arbitrary criteria and internal politics.

'Insight' brings together a studio audience of diverse Aboriginal Australians from around the country for a rare and raw discussion on the concept of Aboriginal identity.

This episode of 'Insight' is hosted by Anton Enus, and screens Tuesday 7 August 8.30pm on SBS ONE.

'Nobody Walks' trailer: John Krasinski, Olivia Thirlby, Lena Dunham

The new movie 'Nobody Walks' had me at hello, when I randomly saw the trailer on YouTube. Watch:

Starring Olivia Thirlby ['Juno'], it's an 'indie relationship dramedies' was co-written by the peerless Lena Dunham, creator of TV smash hit series 'Girls'.

Working with Ry Russo-Young, Dunham wrote the script for 'Nobody Walks' [it won a Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival ). 

About the plotline: Thirlby stars as a 23 year old New Yorker who moves to Los Angeles to finish her art film and soon gets close with the married guy whose house she is staying at [played by John Krasinski].

The brilliant Rosemarie DeWitt ['United States of Tara'] also stars, but looking at the trailer, Thirlby seems to mesmerise most.

'Nobody Walks' will be on iTunes on September 6 - check back in for Australian cinema screen date.
