In celeb news just in: Heidi Klum and Seal confirm that they are splitting after almost seven years of marriage.
In an exclusive statement to WHO's sister publication People, the Project Runway host and the singer say:
"While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate.
"We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition.
"We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children's sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy."
The couple are parents to Leni, 7, Henry, 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2. In fact, the model and TV presenter, 38, and singer, 48, began dating in 2003 after Klum had split from Italian race car team manager Flavio Briatore, and while she was pregnant with Flavio's child Leni.
In December 2004, Seal proposed with a yellow diamond ring (she never took that bauble off, not surprisingly).
The web had been abuzz with talk of their split for the past day (Seal's Twitter post sent it into overdrive with this: The End. ).
Talk shows this morning discussed the end of their marriage with sadness, (it's as if we all knew them!), in disbelief, even disappointment.
It begs the question: why our surprise?
Why did they seem to be the poster couple for the most enduring, exciting, still-madly-in-love marriage?
A point brought up by the Today show's 'Girls on the Grill' segment today was: why the public renewal of their wedding vows every year? (Was it even 'public'? Or did the spying paps make it look like it was?). Another assertion: the more a couple screams look at us, look at how in love we are, the more one should suspect it's all for show.
What do you think? Why the shock?
And who is your 'poster couple' for an enduring union (Barack and Michelle; Wills and Kate; Goldie and Kurt...?)
