Glenn Frey - The Eagles - dead at 67

In news just in, musician and founding member of The Eagles, Glenn Frey, has died, age 67.

The band just posted this - 20 minutes ago - on their Facebook page.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our comrade, Eagles founder, Glenn Frey, in New York City on Monday, January 18th, 2016.

Glenn fought a courageous battle for the past several weeks but, sadly, succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.

The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery.

Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.

Of course, one of the most renowned songs of The Eagles is Hotel California, the title track from the Eagles' album of the same name, and was released as a single in February 1977. Writing credits for the song are shared by Don Feller (music), Don Henley, and Glenn Frey (lyrics).

Céline Dion's brother, Daniel Dion, dies days after husband René Angélil

Just days after world renowned singer Céline Dion's husband and manager died of cancer, her brother has also lost his battle with cancer, a family spokesman said Saturday.

Daniel Dion, 59, was one of the 14 Dion siblings and the eighth child born to Thérèse et Adhémar Dion.

It was revealed on Friday by his sister Claudette Dion to Le Journal de Montréal that her brother had only days or hours to live. She added that he had cancer of the throat, tongue and brain.

Ironically, René Angélil also died of throat cancer.

Claudette said in the article that some of the Dion family were gathered at Daniel’s beside on Thursday, after they were informed that Daniel was “dying.”

Celine Dion’s husband, René Angélil  died Thursday at the age of 73 at their Las Vegas home in Henderson, Nevada.

Zoolander Vogue cover, February 2016

Well, Zoolander and Pen.

On the cover of Vogue. US edition, February 2016, for real. Not a drill. Actually going on sale now.

The really, really, ridiculously good-looking male model Derek Zoolander has landed his first Vogue cover, you guys... and as you can see, he's got some serious blue steel happening.

Ben Stiller - who of course plays Zoolander - is in this dazzling Dolce & Gabbana suit alongside his co-star  Penélope Cruz. The feature inside, with Annie Leibowitz as the photog, sees him in character with the likes of models Gigi Hadid and Jourdan Dunn. Clever move, Vogue.

The movie itself is fun cameo central: Kristen Wiig, Justin Bieber, Benedict Cumberbatch, Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato.

Stiller reveal, however that there was one key cameo they couldn't lock down:

"We didn't get Karl Lagerfeld. I would have liked to get Karl. I came close."

Tella Balls Dessert Bar: Opening Date and Details

It's SO Sydney for us to get SUPER excited about an opening date for a cafe.

But this isn't any cafe... it's THE Nutella dessert bar we've all been talking about. And by all, I mean anyone in Sydney and/or Australia who loves Nutella. We *estimate* that to be about, oh, 89.3% of the population. (We made that up... you get the gist, though).

The date... drum roll: Monday February 29.

Called the Tella Balls Dessert Bar, after the now famed Tella Balls which were the sweet brainchild of owners of Foodcraft Espresso, business partners Aki Daikos and Simon Kappatos, it's set to rock Dulwich Hill (see below for full address deets).

So what excites the man behind the ensuing Nutella hysteria? Every single thing about the new venue, that's what!

"The whole concept, in a nutshell, is Nutella centred of course, but it also has many old school elements we're very excited about, too," says Aki.

"We also making lots of old school gelato flavours, for example, on the premises.

"So, we will have Snickers, Wagon Wheel, Bounty, Tobelerone, Kit Kat flavours."

"We will also have a Nutella soft serve machine, and other soft serve flavours.

"Think of it as people chasing an old school Mr Whippy van - but different!

"We will also have a section with made to order pancakes, and crepes and waffles. You can dine in or take away.

"Ninety per cent of the menu items will be Nutella related, plus other foods for people who can't eat Nutella.

"We will have excellent coffee: Single Origin coffee, as well as the original Tella Ball shakes and balls, plus cronuts.

"A week before the opening we will be revealing a cool new product: a gelato and donut based dessert.

"This will be the first Nutella concept bar in Australia. We want to expand to stores across NSW, as well as Australia wide. There has been interest from New York, and the UAE, too," reveals Aki.

The venue itself? It'll have a “fresh and clean look", the interiors are mostly white. 

We KNOW you want even more specifics for your food porn memory bank: there'll be a five stack Nutella pancake tower (with maple syrup and strawberries, yes). The Nutella pizza.

And: did we mention old school gelato flavours?

Not enough for you? Okay, Aki also says there will be a cabinet filled with Nutella-flavoured desserts: think cheesecakes, brownies, tiramisu, cupcakes and macaroons.

Okay, mark that date in your diaries, folks: Monday February 29. Leap year yumminess.

The Tella Ball Dessert Bar will open at Shop 5, 372 New Canterbury Road, Dulwich Hill, from 11am to 11pm daily on February 29, 2016.

Netflix Australia New Content 'The Crown' and 'The Get Down': VIDEOS

Following the announcement earlier this month that Netflix is now global (see video below), Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos premiered two 'First Look' videos at upcoming Netflix original series, 'The Crown' and 'The Get Down'.

THE CROWN

THE GET DOWN

There will be SO much hype around 'The Get Down' - and deservedly so! Its creator is none other than the supremely Baz Luhrmann's, and it's a music-driven drama that blends disco, punk and hip-hop to tell the story of a group of kids in New York in the late 1970s. HELL YES!

The series stars Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Herizen Guardiola, Jaden Smith, Skylan Brooks, Tremaine Browne, Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito. Part One will premiere later in 2016 (date to be announced) - only on Netflix.

CLEO magazine closes - after 44 years: Covers, Centrefolds, PHOTOS

It's time for CLEO magazine, the icon of Australian magazines.

It has been in our lives since 1972 - 44 years old, baby. She's my age.

The article says:

Cleo’s website was shut down around late November/ early December, with traffic being redirected to the website of Cosmopolitan Australia, another Bauer Media title, however the spokesperson said the “digital and print run completely separate from one another” and there was “no announcement being made today” nor was anything expected to be announced regarding closure in the future.

“It is complete speculation at this point and we’ll be making no announcement to staff today or in the future,” he said.

Buying my first copy, at age 15 in 1987 - and I STILL have it. It was when Lisa Wilkinson - my woman crush to this day - was editor. It was SO scandalous at that time. Well, it was for a 15 year old!

Cleo talked: orgasm, and the clitoris, and lesbian sex, and sex positions, and ALL that stuff, most of which seems super tame today!

Of course, Ita Buttrose was founding editor, Deborah Thomas was once editor, and so many now household, iconic publishing names.

Says news.com.au:

ONCE famous for pushing the boundaries with sex tips and centrefolds, iconic Australian women’s magazine CLEO is set to fold after 44 years.

The Daily Telegraphreports several sources at Bauer Media Group, who publish CLEO, say the magazine’s editor Lucy Cousins and staff will be told of the closure today.

While a February edition is set to be published, it’s understood the magazine won’t continue after that.

The publication’s circulation has been on a steady decline, with monthly sales at 42,212 — down from 150,000 eight years ago.

News of the shut down follows a decision last January to merge the magazine’s editorial team with teen magazine Dolly.

In December, CLEO’s website was also quietly shut down, with users being diverted to Cosmopolitan.com.au — also owned by Bauer.

While a Bauer spokesman confirmed the website’s closure to The Daily Telegraphthey said they had no announcement to make regarding the magazine.

It’s reported the annual Cleo Bachelor of the Year contest will continue under the Cosmopolitan umbrella.

Thought up by publishing giant Kerry Packer and Ita Buttrose in the 1970s, CLEO pushed the boundaries with nude male centrefolds and sex tips. It was also the subject of the 2011 miniseries Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo.
