Hottest 100 date change: here's why

In music news just in, the Triple J Hottest 100 has a new home. It won't be on Australia Day.

Says the announcement on the ABC site:

You heard right, our biggest music celebration of the year has a new date! On Saturday 27 January 2018 we’ll be counting down the Hottest 100 songs of the year, as voted by you. Then, we’ll back it up on Sunday with the songs that just missed out, the Hottest 200.
Welcome to the Hottest 100 Weekend. It’s the countdown you love, made bigger!
Here is the Insta post:
Continues the article:
triple j is making this move after hearing directly from you. Heaps of you took part in our online survey as part of our review of the date of the Hottest 100. (You can read more about that process below.) You told us how much you love the countdown and most of you are up for a new day. We all agreed that the Hottest 100 shouldn’t be part of a debate about the day it’s on. The only debate should be about the songs (“Ya joking shoulda been higher”).
triple j will be freed up to celebrate Australia Day as its own event too. We have some new programming planned for 26 January (more on that later).
So, get your crew together and make sure you keep the 4th weekend in January free, ‘cause the Hottest 100 Weekend is gonna be huge.
Here is what you need to know:
Tues 12 Dec 2017: Voting opens
Mon 22 Jan 2018: Voting closes
Fri 26 Jan 2018: Australia Day
Sat 27 Jan 2018: Hottest 100
Sun 28 Jan 2018: Hottest 200
Why did they choose the fourth weekend in January?

We went with the fourth weekend of January because we wanted to keep all the best bits you love about the Hottest 100 – the music and being with your mates on a day that most people have off – and still host it at the same time in summer you’re used to. It also means we can follow up that weekend with the 200-101 countdown.

It's not the first time there has been a date change!

No, the Hottest 100 has been held on a few different dates in the past so it’s not the first time it’s moved around. The first ever countdown was held on 5 March, 1989 and the countdown didn’t regularly match up with 26 January until 1998. In fact, the 2004 countdown was on 25 January. So, the date of the countdown has moved around and though the Hottest 100 has mostly been held on Australia Day, it’s not about Australia Day.

So, now the cat is out of the bag:

Schapelle Corby, Mercedes on 'Kyle and Jackie O': VIDEOS

This morning, Kyle and Jackie O spoke to Schapelle Corby’s sister, Mercedes about how Schapelle is doing, whether she'd be the new 'The Bachelorette', those masks, that handbag with missing boy William Tyrell's image on it, and lots more.

Here is the whole interview, in segments:

Mercedes said that Schapelle is doing well, and they chatted about how the family had avoided the media upon her return to Australia - and that this would be staying a family secret.
Mercedes also revealed that she was with Schapelle at that moment she was on radio with the duo:
Said Kyle: “Can I get proof of life, just a ‘whats up b*tches!’
"Just a hello in the background", Jackie added.
"Oh she’s shy!" Mercedes replies. "Give us a proof of life!" Kyle said.
"Proof of life! One hello…" Mercedes pleads.
“Kyle and Jackie O. Hello,” Schapelle whispers back.
“Hi darl,” Kyle said.
“Yeah she’s shy!” Mercedes said.’
“Welcome back babe!” Kyle said.
“Well we got a hello,” Jackie said.
“She whispered it, she whispered it.”
“Well we know she’s alive, that’s good!”
‘Yeah, she’s alive,’ Mercedes confirmed.
And then, this: addressing the rumour that Schapelle could be the next 'Bachelorette'.
‘Is that laughable, or plausible?’ Jackie asks.
"Is that the one where they give out the roses, isn’t it?"
"Yeah, the one where you find love." Jackie replied.
"Yeah, she won’t be doing that! Haha!"
Well, Schapelle IS still in a relationship, with her Balinese partner, Ben Panangian, who she met in prison.
And she added that Schapelle wouldn’t be talking to the media anytime soon... and that media should “go home” and remove themselves from the family’s home.

Kyle and Jackie O Five Million $ KIIS FM Deal + VIDEOS

Radio duo Kyle and Jackie O will now both earn up to five million dollars each year, for the next five years.

This comes after the tighter than ever business powerhouse duo signed a new contract with ARN.

“There was never a doubt in my mind KIIS was our home for the long haul, because I made it!” Kyle Sandilands said in a statement released overnight.

In this article, according to industry sources, the KIIS FM breakfast duo could earn up to $25 million each by the end of the contract, which is dependant on ratings.

The article adds that although Kyle and Jackie O negotiated their salaries separately, it’s understood they’re being paid an equal amount.
With strong rumours earlier this year that the popular business couple were approached by 2Day FM - the station they walked out on in 2013 after more than ten years with them - but Kyle has made it clear on numerous occasions on radio, at his new radio home, that he’d never return to his old radio station.
Kyle and Jackie O's show is the number one FM breakfast show with a 10.4 per cent audience share.
Here are some memorable radio moments so far at KIIS:

Rove and Sam: Joel McHale VIDEO on 2DayFM debut

Sooo.

How did Sam Frost and Rove McManus go in their radio debut together on 2Day FM this morning, for the Rove and Sam breakfast show?

Well, for starters: one of their first guests was the one and only Joel McHale (from 'The Soup', you guys... only the funniest reality TV pisstake, screening in Australia on Foxtel).

Joel is in town for a one night only show (forget about it... it's sold out, of course).

And the dialogue was kinda perfect - all the makings of a viral video clip.

Asks Joel: "How many guys did you fuck?"

Replies Sam (who looks to have had some lessons from the fab Rove on the super quick quip): "14. All of them."

Says Joel: "Dear Lord!"

The best part? Joel finding out mid interview Sam was our first 'Bachelorette'.

Gold.

Robin Bailey: One Year After Husband Tony Smart's Suicide VIDEO

Today, September 1, marks the first anniversary of radio host Robin Bailey's late husband Tony Smart's passing. Robin has taken the opportunity to send a message of thanks to those closest to her and the anonymous support she receives from our loyal following (clip, transcript and photo from radio 97.3):

Today is a pretty big day for me because it was on this day a year ago that my husband of 15 years Tony Smart decided to take his own life.

I have spent so many hours thinking about this day 12 months ago. Could I have stopped it, what was different about the day, were there signs to predict what lay ahead and why… why would he do this to us… to me, his friends and family but mostly the kids and now 12 months on I know there are no answers.
Tony’s decision was his and his alone but I can say the fall out has been catastrophic. I won’t talk about my boys as they must have their own voice in this and will tell their own story to those they want to when the time comes… but I will say this has changed all of us for ever and damaged the three people Tony said he loved the most. His choices have handed his children a life sentence that they will feel the consequences of their whole lives. It is defining their adolescence and will shape their partner choice and how they parent their own children… as you can hear I am angry… angry at Tony for not realising the consequences of his actions because we will for a long time to come.
So what has happened in the last 12 months… I've bought then sold a house. I have turned around Tony’s business with the help of some amazing people and then sold it which means that Smartmen will live on in Shavershops, which is a lovely legacy for the boys. I have learnt how to do the big stuff but also the small like change over a gas bottle and hang pictures on a wall. I’ve lain in bed not wanting to get up but knowing I have to and I have just kept going because ultimately what else can you do?
I have made many mistakes in the last 12 months and big ones but I have also done some things right. I have put amazing people around us. From the practical like my most patient lawyer Gleeso to my accountant Mark and financial advisor Keiron who seriously need a medal as they talk me through documents I don’t understand for the 100th time. I have hired a uni student Clare to help get me organised for a couple of hours a week at home because being a dyslexic paper work is seriously not my thing and then there is my support… a group of woman who have picked me up countless times and either jollied or lovingly bullied me into keep going. There are my besties and countless others on the side lines who have made me meals and loved me into submission Alex, Ness, Fi and Ruth I could not have done this without you… then there are the people who have caught my kids. The GPS school that has been outstanding in their pastoral care of my two eldest boys and my youngest son’s state school. The boy’s Godparents who turn up to watch soccer games or rouse on them to clean their rooms and give them that stern male hand that they desperately crave and my mum and sister who have been thrown back to a time when my father died of natural causes when I was 11. It has forced us all to deal with our own family demons and yet they still fly to me whenever it is needed to stand as a unified force against the world.
Then there is work… Thank God for it as seriously it is the one consistent normal in my life and something I at least know how to do. You guys listening don't know this but there are many times when Tez, Bob, Ruth and Ash have to cover for me either on air or off as some crisis or another rears its ugly head and I am forced to leave early or miss an event or just not cry coming out of a break. We are a team in every way and I am so grateful for this job and all the people I work with… Thank you guys thank you xxx
And to the countless strangers, you guys, who continue to care about me and offer your love and light through your kind words. I get your messages through social media and email and feel so blessed to have such amazing anonymous support. But I said in the beginning that I didn't want to be the poster girl for depression or suicide and I still feel that but I do believe my media experience can be used in a way to start conversations. The statistics for both depression and suicide are awful in Australia and something needs to be done so why not me and why not soon... something positive and long term needs to come out of this dreadful experience.
Finally, the one question I get asked the most is "How are you?" Well let me answer this honestly. If there are seven stages of grieving then I am moving into stage number four. I have gone through firstly shock and denial, then pain and guilt, then anger and bargaining and am now shifting into reflection and loneliness. It's hard, it is really, really hard to watch my children grapple with desperately missing their dad while blaming themselves for HIS decision. In some ways it is harder now than it was when he first died as the practical stuff is resolved it’s the emotional tsunami that just keeps coming and I can not fill the void that is left and that eats me up as a mum as I am supposed to be the one that can make it all better and I just can’t. And honestly it’s tough keeping my weapons up as I fight and fight to protect my kids and find happiness. Plus I am really lonely… I can’t begin to imagine bringing a partner into our family life but fighting this fight alone is super tough… and at it’s most basic level I just miss being held and sharing my day with an adult I love. The great news is that with three stages left in this process according to the experts it will turn around and things will start to look up until one day I’ll be at stage seven which is acceptance and hope. As a family we are not nearly there yet but I can see the light and know that my boys and I are walking towards it.
Robin has said that since her husband Tony died she has received many, many words of support. But sadly, some taunts from truly awful people. Josie's Juice wrote this piece on Tony's passing last year (and sadly, some awful comments were received on there also).

Nonna Paola Interviews Joe Manganiello: VIDEOS

This!

Nonna Paola was at the 'Magic Mike XXL' red carpet movie premiere last week in Sydney, as a guest of KIIS 101.1 Melbourne radio, who are big fans of the inimitable Nonna P. (See here for their past fun collabs). And Josie's Juice caught up with her, too. Here is our selfie, standard now every time we meet up:

We are HUGE fans of Nonna Paola, given we have come to know Nonna P and Greg so well in the past few months, we totally get her humour, have covered all her viral videos and collabs with brands, and generally we just bloody love her! Because she's as genuine as they come. Nonna P has a big heart, and clearly, a funny bone too!

Here are the very funny clips with Nonna Paola interviewing the gorgeous Joe Manganiello, who is obviously very clued into the whole Nonna Paola phenomenon, seeing as his heritage is southern Italian also (Nonna P hails from Calabria, Joe's background is Sicilian - yesss, go the Sicilians - we rock!). We think he's very gracious and giving in the interview, and absolutely LOVE how he stays silent while she gives marriage and life advice. That's our Nonna P for you! Joe… we hope you are reading this. You kinda rock! And we love how KIIS 101.1 know good talent when they see it. Nonna as radio correspondent - who woulda thought? But, she owns it, bless.

Here are the videos, and scroll down for more on Nonna P, and a collab we are in involved in with Nonna, for a good cause:

Josie's Juice and 'The Wog With The Grog' are promoting two events to raise funds for Alzheimer's Australia, Nonna Paola's charity of choice:

And the other event we are hosting:

Here are some screen grabs from the Joe and Nonna P interviews. She is brilliant!
