The Mews Mosman: REVIEW

The Mews Mosman has been a Mosman institution for eons, with an all day breakfast and lunch, and plating skills to impress - with delicious food to boot! Think Mod Oz (gosh, is that term still used?) with Asian influences.

Find it in a pretty little nook in a pedestrian precinct in Mosman just off the main drag, and sit yourself down in the cosy cafe. The laneway with chairs and tables outside looks very Parisian and pretty. We visited on a beautiful sunny autumn day, and the sun was streaming in from every angle. It was kinda perfect.

Get ready to be dazzled by the menu which is visually appealing and really delicious.

The owner is Daniel Kim, and he's been in hospo for over ten years.

The result is a menu with the usual (but not so run of the mill here) suspects like smashed avocado, with The Mews version served with goat’s cheese, heirloom tomato, poached eggs, chilli flakes and basil oil on soy-linseed sourdough.

Each dish has a little visual twist - I chose the 'Crabs In Black' ($20): it has my VERY fave item on a menu (soft shell crab), with salmon caviar, charred sweet corn (what a simple yet delicious taste sensation), finger lime, celery, fried egg, black aioli (YES!) and a charcoal brioche to boot!

If that wasn't enough, I HAD to have possibly my second fave menu item: the 'Grilled Haloumi Stack' ($17). This one had spiced eggplant, heirloom tomato, cucumber, tomato relish, coriander, crispy quinoa, grilled haloumi, green balsamic, poached egg, and sourdough toast.

I washed this down with the 'Samba' ($8): with Brazillian cupuacu, caja fruit, acerola cherry, banana, coconut water. Gosh it was so yummy, and so pretty in the sun. Important, people!

My dining partner had The Mews beef burger ($18): grass fed beef, onion rings, lettuce, tomato relish, cheese, bacon, roasted garlic aioli, served with chips.

The Mews uses coffee roasted by Grand Cru - they only supply 13 cafes in Sydney. The Grand Cru Blend is a combo of Brazilian, Ethiopian and Colombian beans.
Opening hours:
Monday to Friday: 6am - 3pm

Saturday and Sunday: 7am - 3pm

The food menu is HERE.

The drinks menu is HERE.

Verdict: find out when the least busy times are (tricky! It looks like it is ALWAYS busy) and take in the experience. The food is excellent, and our tip is to come hungry, and simply sit back and savour. Would recommend!

'My Kitchen Rules': Sonya + Hadil & Jess + Emma - what happened? INTERVIEW

The Jess and Emma and Sonya and Hadil show on 'My Kitchen Rules' has come to an end after a massive argument that got so nasty that Sonya and Hadil ended up being booted from the show.
But what actually happened?

Here is the announcement from the show itself:

The way that the incident appeared on the small screen look as if Sonya and Hadil started personally attacking Jess and Emma in what looked like an unprovoked situation.
But what went down?

On the Kyle & Jackie O Show today they went straight to get the story from the horse's mouth.
First the radio duo spoke with Jess and Emma who said there was more to the story.
“There definitely was something that happened behind the scenes, there was an incident”, said Jess and Emma. “It was an argument that happened off camera that kind of then continued onto camera when it shouldn’t have.”
According to the duo, the fight first began in Tasmania when Sonya and Hadil overheard some gossip that made them upset, which led to an argument between the couples. It was this argument that continued onto the screen.
There was an alleged physical altercation, with rumours spreading that there had been a physical incident, though Jess and Emma didn't shed full light on this.
“They did not hit us,” said Jess and Emma. “We were not physically touched.”
Something DID go down though, with one of the girls saying she ended up with a bruise on her arm after hitting it on the door during a scuffle.
“Just so I can make sense of what I think’s happened here, a quick recap”, said Jackie. “You got into an argument with Sonya and Hadil. Sonya and Hadil got into a physical altercation with another couple and during the scuffle, one of you got hurt from the door.”
“It’s something along those lines,” replied the girls.
Meanwhile, Sonya was listening to the radio interview live and to called through to give her side of the story.
“Hadil was walking past, I think it was Stella and Jazzey’s room, and she just overheard conversations being had and it wasn’t pleasant,” said Sonya. “I just don’t think the network handled the situation well…they knew that this was going to explode the next time we saw everyone on the table and that’s where all the anger came from.”
“There was nothing that happened off air that was physical,” added Sonya. “No one bashed anyone. We’re not violent women, and that’s the upsetting part for us.”
Then, plot twist: Jess and Emma came back on the line and were adamant something physical DID take place.
“You said there was something physical that happened but not to you,” said Jackie. To which Jess and Emma responded, “correct”.
Kyle and Jackie then once again asked Sonya who was involved in the physical confrontation. How did Sonya respond?
“I think Hadil’s the one to answer that,” replied Sonya. “I can tell you that I was not physical.”
Word is Sonya is to appear on 'A Current Affair' soon so we will see what she has to say!

Avicii dead at age 28

In very sad news, Artist, DJ, and producer Tim Bergling, a.k.a. Avicii ed Friday afternoon in Oman, according to a statement from his rep. He was 28.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” the statement reads. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

Avicii was one of the most popular and successful electronic dance-music artists of all time.

He achieved a No. 4 hit on the Billboard 200 in 2013 with “Wake Me Up” and he regularly appeared in the Top 5 of Forbes’ “Highest-Paid DJs” lists.

Avicii retired from live performing in 2016 at the peak of his success, citing health reasons. He had suffered from health problems for several years, including acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking. He had his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014.

He posted the following statement on his website last year:

“WE ALL REACH A POINT IN OUR LIVES AND CAREERS WHERE WE UNDERSTAND WHAT MATTERS THE MOST TO US.

For me it’s creating music. That is what I live for, what I feel I was born to do.

Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it. But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.

The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new.

Hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.”

Avicii was born in Stockholm on September 8, 1989. He began DJing as a teenager and released his first single in 2007. He released a large number of singles and remixes in the following years and quickly built a reputation as a live act.

His 2010 hit “Seek Bromance” charted in several European countries and he signed a publishing deal with EMI the same year.

His name? He explained his chosen DJ name as “the lowest level of Buddhist hell,” chosen because his real name was already being used by another Tim Bergling on MySpace.

Here is the news wrap on his death:

And here is his most famous hit song 'Wake Me Up' which at the time of publishing this post, had had 1.4 billion view on YouTube:
