The Mews Mosman: REVIEW

The Mews Mosman has been a Mosman institution for eons, with an all day breakfast and lunch, and plating skills to impress - with delicious food to boot! Think Mod Oz (gosh, is that term still used?) with Asian influences.

Find it in a pretty little nook in a pedestrian precinct in Mosman just off the main drag, and sit yourself down in the cosy cafe. The laneway with chairs and tables outside looks very Parisian and pretty. We visited on a beautiful sunny autumn day, and the sun was streaming in from every angle. It was kinda perfect.

Get ready to be dazzled by the menu which is visually appealing and really delicious.

The owner is Daniel Kim, and he's been in hospo for over ten years.

The result is a menu with the usual (but not so run of the mill here) suspects like smashed avocado, with The Mews version served with goat’s cheese, heirloom tomato, poached eggs, chilli flakes and basil oil on soy-linseed sourdough.

Each dish has a little visual twist - I chose the 'Crabs In Black' ($20): it has my VERY fave item on a menu (soft shell crab), with salmon caviar, charred sweet corn (what a simple yet delicious taste sensation), finger lime, celery, fried egg, black aioli (YES!) and a charcoal brioche to boot!

If that wasn't enough, I HAD to have possibly my second fave menu item: the 'Grilled Haloumi Stack' ($17). This one had spiced eggplant, heirloom tomato, cucumber, tomato relish, coriander, crispy quinoa, grilled haloumi, green balsamic, poached egg, and sourdough toast.

I washed this down with the 'Samba' ($8): with Brazillian cupuacu, caja fruit, acerola cherry, banana, coconut water. Gosh it was so yummy, and so pretty in the sun. Important, people!

My dining partner had The Mews beef burger ($18): grass fed beef, onion rings, lettuce, tomato relish, cheese, bacon, roasted garlic aioli, served with chips.

The Mews uses coffee roasted by Grand Cru - they only supply 13 cafes in Sydney. The Grand Cru Blend is a combo of Brazilian, Ethiopian and Colombian beans.
Opening hours:
Monday to Friday: 6am - 3pm

Saturday and Sunday: 7am - 3pm

Verdict: find out when the least busy times are (tricky! It looks like it is ALWAYS busy) and take in the experience. The food is excellent, and our tip is to come hungry, and simply sit back and savour. Would recommend!
