Alex McKinnon: 60 Minutes VIDEO Full Interview

Just live, the entire interview with Alex McKinnon as it screened on 60 Minutes, interviewed by the wonderful Liz Hayes.

CLICK HERE FOR THE WHOLE INTERVIEW.

And here is info on Alex's new book and how to buy.

Alex McKinnon Book: Where To Buy

Did you watch 60 Minutes Australia tonight?

How incredibly emotional.

At the end of the interview, you would have heard Alex has a new book out.

Here is a short blurb, and a link for where to get it (but first, the cover):

Rugby League was Alex McKinnon’s life. Born into a football family, from five years old Alex played junior football with the Aberdeen Tigers at McKinnon Oval, a ground named after his grandfather.

A talented and committed young player Alex was signed to the Dragons as a 16 year old and made his NRL debut at 19. Captaining the Junior Kangaroos, and having established himself as an NRL player at 22, Alex was clearly one of the leading players of his generation.

However in the 39th minute of the Newcastle Knights vs Melbourne Storm game on March 24 last year, Alex’s life changed forever. A tackle gone wrong damaging his spinal cord leaving him paralyzed from the chest down.

In the days that followed Alex was told not only was his football career over, but he would likely never walk again. Like any young person in this situation - let alone a professional athlete – this was devastating. Alex’s life as he knew it was over.

The story of what followed, both privately and publicly, is simply extraordinary. Far from being over, Alex came to realise a new life had just begun.

For the first time Alex talks of his exact thoughts and feelings during the those first fateful moments on the field, and with raw honesty takes us through his painful first days and weeks in hospital, including the heartbreaking moment he is told the ramifications of his injury.

Those who know Alex best are not surprised at what happened next.

Here is where you can pre-order the book.

Carina's Crafts: Carina Rego PROFILE

I'm really proud to post this post.

Carina Rego is my friend; we've been buddies since we were 12.

This very talented woman has been creating birthday cards and notes and crafting up all sorts of wonderful things for decades! I'd give a simple store-bought card for birthdays; Carina would create something with a theme, and fancy fonts, and hand-stitched craftiness, stitched on with love.

All of us have encouraged her to keep creating, reach for the stars, but it's not like she needed any convincing… and Carina's Crafts was born.

I asked her why she loves to create and how it makes her feel.

"I love seeing something that I have pictured or created in my head come to life. I love making for others. I love teaching and sharing crafty knowledge," says Carina.

"I feel happy, at ease, relaxed when creating craft. I feel like I need to craft everyday, whether it's 'researching' on Pinterest, coming up with new ideas or projects or actual production, it's kinda my oxygen."

And Brother Australia agree.

Here is the announcement from Brother Australia about a huge comp they were running:

Drum Roll…A huge CONGRATULATIONS to C.Rego, our lucky grand prize winner of our #BrotherInspirescompetition! Her wonderful re-creation of Handmade Kids' inspirational banner is sure to make you smile smile emoticonWe absolutely love the miniature additions made to the banner, such a fantastic idea! We’re overwhelmed with all the wonderful entries we've received and we hope you all had as much fun creating them as we have had looking through them.

And the post about her prizes and how it's all coming along:

Furniture √ Accessories √ Styling √ …it’s all slowly coming together for our lucky #BrotherInspires winner, C.Rego! Interior stylist Briar Stanley of Sunday Collector has been working with C.Rego to put together the #inspirational sewing/craft studio of her dreams! Here’s a sneak peak of the ideas flowing and the minimalist chic style that they are looking to go with for Carina’s #craft room. We can’t wait to see the final result! Stay tuned for the more…#moodboard

'The Bachelor' 2015 Women: PHOTO + VIDEO

The new 'Bachelor' for the 2015 edition of 'The Bachelor' Australia is here and his name is Sam Wood.

And here… are all the women! The women vying for Sam's heart all appeared in today's The Sunday Telegraph - here is a snap of that:

Give it time… they will be seen everywhere!

Here is a close up photo of all the Victorian women, as they appeared in today's Herald Sun.

And… Sam, 34, has a TV sex ban, and said he won’t be getting down on bended knee either. NOPE.
Read his whole first interview since being named as The Bachelor here.
He said in the interview he’s never even seen the show (what!)

US Confirms First Measles Death In Over a Decade

This just in.

The headline on the Jezebel site screams: ' You Did It, Jim Carrey: US Confirms First Measles Death In Over a Decade.'

The article starts:

Fans of Jim Carrey, his ex Jenny McCarthy, and any other anti-vaxxer out there will be pleased to learn that their efforts to keep children safe has paid off. While these fearless warriors were out there protesting California’s mandatory vaccination law, a woman quietly died of measles. But you know, it was probably due to vaccinations in the first place.
The woman, who is unnamed, is the sixth person to contract measles in Clallam County, Washington. Slate reports that the vaccination rate there is much lower than it should be and that the victim likely contracted measles when she visited a health facility at which someone with measles was present. The victim’s immune system was already compromised due to medications she was taking, so the disease didn’t have a hard time taking hold. The woman died of pneumonia, which has been ruled a complication of the measles.
Read the whole article here.

From personal experience, as someone who:

- has a son with autism and is SICK of hearing that vaccines CAUSED HIS AUTISM

- has a mother who was was extremely immuno-comprimised (low body weight due to advanced dementia, plus a rare and very serious blood disorder) who I cared for and loved and fought for tirelessly, and who then succumbed to pneumonia, and was exposed to illness and people who were sick

- HAS COMMON SENSE AND BELIEVES DOCTORS - NOT GOOGLE EXPERTS

This whole story makes me so very mad.

It also makes these people mad, a snippet on the Jezebel Facebook thread:

'YOU LOOK DISGUSTING': Viral Video

This video was only posted a few days ago by a woman named Em Ford (who also starred and directed in it) and already it is making a huge impact.

Read the description below:

Three months ago, I began posting images of myself without makeup on social media. The following film contains real comments that were left on images of my face.

x

The description continues:

Over the past few months, I've received thousands of messages from people all over the world who suffer or have suffered from acne, an insecurity or self confidence issues.

I wanted to create a film that showed how social media can set unrealistic expectations on both women and men. One challenge many face today, is that as a society, we're so used to seeing false images of perfection, and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards that It can be hard to remember the most important thing - You ARE beautiful.

You are beautiful - no matter how flawed you feel, no matter how upset you may about the way you look or how hard you find it to make friends, or be confident. Believe in yourself, and never let anyone tell you're not beautiful - not even yourself.
