Chatting to a man called Mickey…

Born Philip Andre Rourke Jr, Mickey Rourke himself is an epic tale of desire, talent, woe, heartbreak and inner survival second to none. His life couldn’t be a film – it would have to be a mini series.

From winning his first boxing match at the age of 12, Rourke would continue his pugilist aspirations until repeat concussions forced him to ‘lay low’ and the acting bug bit him hard. New York beckoned – and with a stint at The Actors Studio, Rourke soon found himself on the set of Spielberg’s ‘1941’. ‘Body Heat’ and ‘Diner’ soon followed, it was clear this striking young actor with an inner fire and a dangerous subtext was destined for great things.
