Based on Piper Kerman’s best-selling memoir, Orange Is the New Black follows Brooklynite Piper
Chapman (Taylor Schilling - mesmerising on screen), whose long relationship with drug-runner Alex (Laura Prepon – she's evil-good… and she's from 'That 70’s Show') results in her arrest and year-long detention in a federal
penitentiary.
Piper leave her comfy New York life with fiancé Larry (Jason Biggs - sensational in this role) for a flattering orange prison jumpsuit and attempt to assimilate in a prison culture that hits her like whiplash. The flashback scenes from old life to new are cleverly shot and pure gold.
The series’ ensemble also includes Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Voyager), Natasha Lyonne (American Pie), Pablo Schreiber (Law & Order: SVU), Danielle Brooks (Girls), Laverne Cox (Musical Chairs), Taryn Manning (Sons of Anarchy) and Australia’s Yael Stone (Spirited).
Fan, did you know that directors of individual episodes also include hollywood icons Jodie Foster (Silence of the Lambs) and Andrew McCarthy (St. Elmo’s Fire)? So good.
Special DVD features include episode commentaries for “I Wasn’t Ready” and “Can’t Fix Crazy” with Producers Jenji Kohan, Tara Herrmann and Mark Burley.
