Magda Szubanski to come out, while pledging support for gay marriage

Wow, what a story:

Just in time for Valentine's Day, comedic actress Magda Szubanski is set to come out as a lesbian, while pledging support for gay marriage.

And here:

How great is that?

My fave quote from her:

''I am 1000 per cent in favour of gay marriage. We pay taxes, fight wars for this country, nurse you when you are sick, make you laugh, sing and dance for you, play netball for you, star in your movies.

''The law as it stands is unfair and it needs to be changed to reflect the wonderful, tolerant, live-and-let-live society Australians have created.''

Amen to that, sister.

  1. Not that she ACTUALLY said "I am gay" but even if she does, why does she think pople will care?

This is 2012, 99.9999999 percent of people don't give a crap if someone is gay, so why gay people think they need to declare themselves to the world instead of just getting on with their life the way they want, is beyond me.

  2. @Jewel Divas.... Gay people still need to come out because WE don't have the same legal rights as all other Australians. And it's all beyond you because you can live your live without fear of discrimination & violence just because of who you love. Walk in someone else's shoes before you pass comment on something you have not idea about!

  3. Well said Anon...could not have put it better myself. It is the absolute unfortunate truth.

As for Jewel Divas...Perhaps if you took the time to actually read about what is going on in the world, rather than living under a rock you would realise that you're correct about one thing & one thing only, it is in fact 2012.

The severity of discrimination against the Gay community is highly publicised in the media EVERYDAY! Do you not read about the bullying that goes on to the point where beautiful young souls are taking their own lives, because they live in constant terror due to the taunts they go through daily?!

It takes tremendous courage & great stength of character to live your truth...I commend Magda for being able to finally live her truth & hope that she inspires others to do the same.

  4. Thanks for your comments, everyone. Appreciate a good debate.

I will say however that I agree with both the Anonymous replies, not with Jewel Divas' reply.

Unless you are a part of the gay community, you have no idea just how tough it is for them. In every way.
