Whitney Houston. Dead at 48.
She died in a room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Cause, as yet, not announced.
Many of my friends - we are all turning 40, and were 12 when she burst onto the music scene - are completely devastated.
She is part of our history - as she is for many - the woman whose voice blew us all away, whose lyrics moved us ("Didn't We Almost Have It All" and "All At Once" were two standouts that had us pining even more for boys), her emotion-charged delivery and purest of voices were like nothing we'd ever seen. Or heard.
She really was an unparalleled talent, with a troubled past, and what looked like a better future.
