'Smash' on W channel

Did you catch the first ep of US TV series 'Smash'?

Think of it as a mix between Glee, American Idol (I have a secret love for this show... shhh), and The Voice (another secret... can't wait to see the Oz version of this show, now filming). With Chicago and High School Musical thrown in the mix.

One of the executive producers on Smash is Steven Spielberg. So you know it's gonna be good.

And good it is. Very good.

Centred on the prep of an ambitious Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe, it's soaring singing solos, uber-good dance routines, and the obligatory back-stabbing that comes with.

During the first ep I did some serious [archival] star spotting.

Wait, isn't that the annoying kid sister in 'Some Kind of Wonderful'? Yes. And isn't that the spunk from eons-ago UK series 'This Life'? Yep. And that dark, brooding dude... he's SJP's waiter from
the 'Sex and the City 2' movie. IMDB, thank you for confirming that.

Add to that the likes of Angelica Huston, Debra Messing and newcomers Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty - and lots of mesmerising performances peppered throughout - and you have a series you are sure to be hooked on.

The first ep of Smash repeats on the W channel Wed Feb 22 at 12.50pm, and on Saturday at 8.30pm. Then fresh new eps each Tuesday on W at 7.30pm.
