Giuliana & Bill - third series starts tonight on The Style Network

I am not sure why I enjoy watching Giuliana & Bill Rancic in their reality show (called - what else- Giuliana & Bill) but as their third season screens tonight at 8.30pm on Foxtel's The Style Network, I will be watching again.

It's likely because I've always liked Giuliana on E! News with Ryan Seacrest. Probably because I love that she is Italian-born and I get to hear the occasional authentic Italian convo. Perhaps because I thought Bill Rancic was the spunkiest (and first) person to win Donald Trump's The Apprentice.

But mostly it's probably because the too-gorgeous couple have their share of woes like the rest of us. Granted, theirs are experienced in designer gear and in lavish bi-coastal American homes and regular exy holidays, but still.

They couldn't have scripted what happens in this season, though.

The couple openly discuss trying to have a baby in the last season, and in this season, we see the couple undergo IVF, then experience the heartache of miscarriage.

Even though their lives are light years away from ours, I think it's admirable that anyone expose the issues surrounding infertility.

I recall at the compulsory pre-marriage counselling hubby and I attended before marrying (it's a prerequisite in the Catholic church) a speaker revealed that something like four in 10 couples would experience issues with infertility during their marriage. I recall being a little gobsmacked. Years later, I found this stat to ring true. And the more I spoke with women, the more I realised it was very common. It's just that no-one wants to talk about it, for many reasons. One is the heartbreaking, self-inflicted notion that they'd be viewed as somewhat less of a woman. Trust me, when you want a baby, all logic goes out the window.

In Giuliana & Bill, they show how the process takes a physical and emotional toll on the couple and especially Giuliana, but the couple is then thrilled when they discover the procedure worked - Giuliana falls pregnant. They throw themselves into preparing for the birth of their first child, including deciding to make Chicago their home and buy a house in the suburbs. But their dream house is a renovation nightmare and the stress of dealing with construction and skyrocketing costs creates tension between the couple. Then, in a tragic turn of events, Giuliana suffers a miscarriage.

I saw them on The View a few weeks ago and they discussed for the first time their devastating miscarriage. Their heartache was still so raw, it was moving to watch. But their positive attitude in light of their experiences was so endearing and inspiring to see.

They were also there to plug their new book as a couple (called 'I Do, Now What?: Secrets, Stories, and Advice from a Madly-in-Love Couple') and again, as I acknowledge their lives are vastly different from ours - and without having read the book - you'd be assured it'd be full of the real life experiences of what actually does happen after you take those vows.

Giuliana & Bill season three premieres tonight on The Style Network.

The Style Network is available on FOXTEL, OPTUS and AUSTAR on Channel 122
